Lupi, Camarines Sur – A major road in Lupi, Camarines Sur, is at risk as severe erosion has compromised its foundation, raising concerns among motorists and local residents.
The visibly deteriorating section, captured in the image, shows significant soil erosion beneath the road, leaving the structure precariously hanging over a washed-out embankment.
Heavy rains and natural wear over time are believed to have triggered the collapse, as water runoff has eroded the soil supporting the road. Commuters and truck drivers have expressed worries over the road’s safety, particularly as it remains open to vehicles.
Local authorities are now being urged to prioritize immediate repairs to prevent further damage, as prolonged exposure could lead to a complete collapse. Residents have also called for reinforced embankments and better drainage systems to stabilize the area and mitigate future erosion risks.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Bicol is expected to conduct an assessment and implement emergency measures soon.
The road is a critical link for transportation in the region, and its failure could disrupt daily travel and logistics for local businesses. In the meantime, motorists are advised to exercise caution when traversing the affected section. Further advisories are expected as local authorities monitor the situation
