Tabaco City, Albay—Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Jil Bongalon, now a candidate for Congressman in the 1st District of Albay, has emphasized the need for innovative solutions in addressing the challenges faced by the education sector, particularly in island schools.

Speaking about his accomplishments as a legislator, Rep. Bongalon cited the successful allocation of additional Maintenance and Other Operating Expenses (MOOE) funds to 50 schools under the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Tabaco City in 2024. Each school received Php 100,000 sourced from the General Appropriations Act (GAA) 2024.

“This initiative immediately addressed pressing issues such as the lack of power supply, safety, sanitation, and the improvement of school facilities in island schools,” Bongalon said. He added that the limited budget often forced schools to rely on contributions from parents and other donors, a burden eased by this government support.

Key Projects Implemented:
1. San Miguel Elementary School – Solar Panel Installation
2. Rawis Elementary School – Rainwater Catchment and Solar Panel Installation
3. Sagurong Elementary School – Ceiling Repairs in Classrooms and the Admin Building
4. Angas Elementary School – Solar Panel Installation
5. Malictay Elementary School – Solar Panel Installation
6. San Miguel National High School – Repair and Concreting of SHS Building Stairs and Replacement of Steel Fence
7. Hacienda High School – Solar Panel Installation
8. Hacienda Elementary School – Solar Panel Installation

The projects, showcased through a video presentation prepared by the respective school heads, highlight a range of critical improvements, including renewable energy adoption through solar panels, enhanced water supply via rainwater catchments, and structural repairs for long-neglected facilities.

Rep. Bongalon’s dedication to education reform and his proactive approach to solving local school challenges have earned him recognition in Tabaco City and beyond. As he campaigns for a seat in Congress representing Albay’s 1st District, he reiterates his commitment to ensuring equitable access to quality education for all.

“Education is not just about providing resources—it’s about creating opportunities for every child to succeed. This will always remain a priority in my legislative agenda,” Bongalon said.
