Man Behind Opinyon Bicol
Carmelo Redencion dela Torre de Leoz Jr., known to many as Jun de Leoz, is the creator of Opinyon Bicol, a popular news and commentaries Facebook page in Bicol, and the Editor of OBNews, a printed newsmagazine of Opinyon Bicol parlaying relevant news and articles in the region. He once served in Malacañang, handling livelihood and special concerns programs, including projects for street children under the President’s Social Fund. He was also a reporter for The Daily Tribune, a mainstream national broadsheet.
He is credited for conducting the feasibility study for the re-opening of the Philippine Postal Savings Bank, which led to him becoming a senior bank manager at the age of 30. After his stint as a bank manager, he devoted himself to the labor movement, becoming a consultant for the Philippine Government Employees Association. He authored the Dulugan ng Bayan Manual of Operations, a guide for government employees to be involved in the anti-corruption drive. He also had behind-the-scenes involvement in the lifestyle check program under PGMA’s administration.
After gaining a large number of followers, he organized the Opinyon Bicol SocMed Group Inc. (OBSMGI), composed of loyal followers from all over Bicol.
OBSMGI is the community service arm of Opinyon Bicol, engaging in activities such as feeding programs, gift-giving, clean-up drives, and participation in socio-civic events like fiesta parades. More importantly, OBSMGI helps its members understand and avail of government assistance programs, including TUPAD, AKAP, AICS, MAIP, SLP, and others.
Beyond providing timely news to the Bicol community, Jun de Leoz has empowered ordinary Bicolanos to get involved in socio-civic endeavors, making OBSMGI the “Rotary Club of the common folks.”
He is also the author of God Not Religion, published on free-ebooks.net, and is currently running his book series Ang Sikreto ng Matagumpay na Negosyante in Opinyon Bicol.
