Flags flew at half-mast across Albay as the province mourned the passing of veteran lawmaker and esteemed public servant, Congressman Edcel Lagman. His death marked the end of an era for Albay politics, leaving behind a legacy of service, advocacy, and dedication to the people.
Albay Acting Governor Glenda Ong-Bongao honored Lagman with a heartfelt tribute:
“Life has to end, but love endures forever. ❤️ Dakulang SALAMAT po sa gabos, Congressman Edcel Lagman kan Primer Distrito kan Albay! In memory of a life well lived… 🥰 May 1, 1942 – January 30, 2025.”
This sentiment resonated deeply with many Albayanos, as Lagman’s work and legacy left an indelible mark on the province.
Former Malinao Mayor Lenybelle Ceriola-Santos expressed deep gratitude for Lagman’s support during her tenure, particularly his efforts in securing ₱77 million in funding for the construction of the town hall. Despite their political differences in later years, Ceriola-Santos acknowledged Lagman’s significant contributions to Albay’s development.
Even AKB Rep. Jil Bongalon, now a rival of Lagman’s daughter in the congressional race, set aside political differences to extend his sympathies. He praised Lagman for his unwavering commitment to public service and the lasting impact he left on the province.
Prominent Albayanos also paid tribute to Lagman. Albay 2nd District Rep. Joey Salceda, despite past disagreements, stated, “It was an honor to serve Albay alongside Congressman Edcel Lagman. He was always formidable. Condolences to the family, and may he rest in peace.”
House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez remarked, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of Albay 1st District Rep. Edcel C. Lagman. He was more than a colleague—he was a passionate and fearless legislator whose presence in the House of Representatives commanded respect.”
