The Legazpi Fish Port continues to operate normally despite rumors and misleading pictures circulating online, falsely claiming that the port is closed.

The controversy arose after the Legazpi City Government temporarily took over management of the fish port from a cooperative that had overseen its operations for the past twelve years.

The takeover was prompted by the cooperative’s lack of a valid contract and its failure to remit the 20% revenue share to the city, as mandated by ordinance. Instead, the city had been receiving only a fixed monthly rental fee. On December 2, the city officially notified the cooperative and assumed control of the fish port operations.

Since then, the city has directly benefited from the revenues generated by the facility. However, some disgruntled parties began spreading rumors online, including photos suggesting that the fish port was non-operational. This misinformation caused confusion among concessionaires, buyers, and stakeholders, prompting some to explore other options.

To address the issue, Joselito Gonzalo Martines, the city-appointed caretaker of the fish port, clarified on his Facebook account that the facility is fully operational. He emphasized that the fish port remains open from 4:00 PM until morning, reassuring stakeholders of its continued service. The city government is committed to ensuring smooth operations at the fish port and safeguarding its economic contributions to the community.
