MANILA β Senate Committee on Finance Chairperson Senator Grace Poe has confirmed that funds for the Department of Social Welfare and Developmentβs (DSWD) Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) have been reinstated in the 2025 national budget, though not at the full amount of the original allocation of β±39 billion.
According to Senator Poe, only β±26 billion was allocated for AKAP following deliberations in the bicameral conference. Of this amount, β±21 billion came from the House of Representativesβ version of the budget, with an additional β±5 billion added by the Senate.
The restored funds aim to support struggling families relying on government assistance. However, concerns remain over whether the reduced allocation will be sufficient to meet the programβs goals, especially as many Filipinos continue to live below the poverty line.
Lawmakers remain hopeful that the reinstated funds will provide immediate aid and strengthen the implementation of AKAP in 2025. The finalized budget is now set to be signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. before the year ends.
